Georgia income tax in 2026
Georgia taxes income at a flat 4.99%. The standard deduction is $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly.
What makes Georgia different
Georgia replaced its graduated brackets with a single flat rate in 2024 and has continued lowering it under a schedule set by the legislature. The standard deduction is relatively generous for a flat-tax state, and Georgia excludes a large share of retirement income for residents 62 and older.
- HB 463 cut Georgia’s flat rate from 5.19% to 4.99% for tax years beginning January 1, 2026, and raised the standard deduction to $15,000 ($30,000 joint).
- Employers could begin withholding at 4.99% from May 11, 2026, so withholding earlier in the year was at 5.19%.
- The dependent deduction ($5,000 each) is not included.
