    What makes New York different

New York State uses nine brackets, and residents of New York City and Yonkers owe additional local income tax that this calculator doesn’t include. NYC resident rates range from about 3.08% to 3.88%. New York also requires employee contributions for Paid Family Leave and disability insurance (SDI), which are small payroll deductions not modeled here.

    • 2026 is the first year of a two-step rate cut: the five lowest rates fell 0.1 point (another 0.1 point in 2027).
    • Above $107,650 of NY AGI, New York applies a "supplemental tax" (benefit recapture) that this estimate does not model, so high earners may owe slightly more.
    • NY Paid Family Leave and SDI employee contributions are not included.
    • New York City (3.078%–3.876%) and Yonkers residents owe additional local income tax, which is not included here.
